Description
RWD Consulting is looking for a full-time System Architect SME to work on site at Walter Reed in Bethesda, MD.

SCOPE OF WORK

The System Architecture SME will serve as chief engineer of system and server architecture projects for all projects being evaluated, maintained, or updated by the department and provide expert analysis, recommendations, and consultation on system infrastructure solutions. This is an IAT Level II position as defined in DoD 8570.01-M which requires the applicable certifications/accreditation.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, business administration or a related field. Equivalent work or military experience maybe substituted.
  • 10+ years of system architecture and engineering experience. Preference is in a DoD space.
  • Microsoft MSCE-level certification and VMware VCP-level certification are required. AWS and/or Azure certification is preferred.
  • Expertise in Datacenter technologies including, but not limited to, compute technologies, virtualization technologies, block/file storage devices, hyper-converged infrastructure, and Disaster Recovery planning and design.
  • Deep understanding of: Microsoft Active Directory, DoD information assurance standards, application virtualization, Cisco routing and switching, Amazon Web Services, and Microsoft Azure cloud technologies.
  • Familiarity with HP C7000, Cisco UCS, Cisco Nexus 7K, EMC storage and technology, Palo Alto firewall, VMware, Nutanix, VXrail.
  • Advanced understanding of the industry, market segment, and emerging technologies.
  • Excellent project management, time management, and coordination skills.
  • Strong customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Ability to work well in an organization and coordinate across various groups and functional teams.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen to ensure access to U.S. government facilities.
  • Must possess an active Secret Clearance

TASKS TO BE PERFORMED

  • Serve as a leading technical SME for the department, establishing an understanding of organizational values and current and future technical needs of an organization of this size and complexity, developing long-term strategy and direction for WRNMMC. Build credibility for the organization with leading technical vendors and providers and bring innovation to the organization.
  • Participates in a multi-disciplinary team to provide guidance and design for all new technology/solutions.
  • Provides in-depth technical and systems consultation to ensure alignment with the Enterprise Architecture
  • Develop and maintain systems/solutions architecture roadmap based on business strategic initiatives
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of emerging technologies, including Virtualization, Cloud Computing, SaaS, and more. Maintain a thorough understanding on DoD Information Assurance standards and apply appropriately in the evaluation of technical solutions.
  • Provide consultation and support in all aspects of projects involving virtual server consolidation, design and implementation. Support the organization with the design, testing, monitoring, and change management activities related to system and server architecture.
  • Develop market research results, white papers, and presentations for leadership regarding emerging technologies and alternative solutions. White-board partial or complete solutions as requested. The focus will be on data center technologies, and solutions should be comprehensive, including hardware, software, licensing, maintenance and support.
  • Provide guidance and training to departmental engineers, functional analysts, project managers, stakeholders and more related to applicable technical projects.
  • Contribute to process improvement activities and methodologies within the department, including documenting policies, procedures, implementation plans, and more.
  • Design, build and maintain Engineering and Research lab equipment including, but not limited to, internet ISP connection, firewall, router, switch, compute, storage, virtualization and Cloud VPC.
