POSITION: Medical Laboratory Technician - MLT

RWD Consulting is seeking a full-time Medical Labortory Technician (MLT), to work on site at the Joint Pathology Center in Silver Spring, MD.  This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Lab Tech. This position has competitive pay and benefits.  

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Medical Laboratory Technician (Clinical Laboratory Assistant, Registered Medical Technician) performs a variety of routine tests and laboratory procedures in a medical laboratory for use in diagnosis and treatment of disease. This technician conducts testing and prepares tissue samples for study by medical technologist or pathologist, prepares chemical reagent stains and solutions, tends automatic equipment to prepare specimens and perform analytic tests, makes preliminary identifications subject to confirmation of supervisor, maintains laboratory stock of chemicals and glassware, and may collect specimens from patients.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:

·        The Medical Laboratory Technician must have a Professional knowledge of medical technology, theories, practices, concepts, terminology and established procedural and quality control methodologies as well as broad comprehensive knowledge of laboratory medicine and/or histology.

·        This position will require the incumbent to have certification through the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or equivalent.

·        Knowledge of accreditation requirements for the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP), the Joint Commission (JC), the College of American Pathologists (CAP) and an understanding of Clinical Laboratory Standards Institutes (CSLI) recommendations and requirements to maintain and monitor accreditation of the JPC.

·        Knowledge of the medical sciences and of research concepts and terminology.

·        Knowledge of clinical and administrative procedures, rules, policies, general practices, and operations.

·        Knowledge of procedures involved in correcting and adjusting information in a medical/clinical automated system.

·        Some medical repository experience to include the processing of incoming materials for storage and pulling materials from inventory.
